Sinaia and Predeal

Sinaia

The town was named after Sinaia Monastery, around which it was built. Also called the Pearl of the Carpathian Mountains, Sinaia is located at an altitude between 767m and 860m, and besides the wonderful landscapes, it offers the possibility of practicing winter sports.

Peles Complex

The complex is composed of three monuments: Peles Castle, Pelisor Chateau and Foisor Hunting Chateau. This was the summer residence of King Carol I of Romania.

Peles Castle

Today a historical monument, Peles Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle placed in an idyllic setting in the Carpathian Mountains. Peles Castle has over 170 rooms, of which 35 are accessible to the public, many with dedicated themes from world cultures, all extremely lavishly furnished and decorated to the slightest detail. The establishment hosts one of the finest collections of art in East and Central Europe, consisting of statues, paintings, furniture, arms and armour, gold, silver, stained glass, ivory, fine china, tapestries and rugs; the collection of arms and armour has over 4000 pieces, spreading over four centuries in history.

Sinaia Monastery

The Sinaia Monastery was founded by Prince Mihai Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Sinai Monastery on Mount Sinai. The current appearance is created by George Mandrea, an architect who combined the Moldavian style with thick walls with the Brâncovenesc style from Walachia.

Sinaia Casino

The Sinaia Casino was built between 1912-1913, at the initiative of King Carol I of Romania. Nowadays, the Casino houses the International Conference Centre, where important conferences, symposiums and congresses are being organized.

Predeal

Being the town at the highest altitude in Romania, Predeal is an all-season health and holiday resort of national importance, outstanding touristic and winter sports centre. The tonic-stimulating mountain climate with cool summers (July average temperature of 15°C) and cold winters (January average of 5°C below) offers the most suitable base to enjoy a refreshing walk through the city.
